Latin II today completed 26.6 as a class. Then, we read tribunus on p. 111. We will have the Stage 26 test on Friday, May 13.

Latin II Advanced today read urbs barbarorum and discussed various grammatical features, including passive voice verbs, uses of the subjunctive, and the ablative absolute. The Stage 31 test is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11. There is a vocab quiz tomorrow.

After the vocab quiz, Latin III today reviewed participle morphology. Students received practice exercises to complete in class and for homework.

Latin IV continued reading Echo et Narcissus. Students should prepare the last 12 lines tonight.

Latin II today took the Stage 24 test.

Latin II Advanced today took the Stage 29 test.

After today’s vocab quiz, Latin III read through the first half of Cupid and Psyche, Chapter 5. We will continue reading tomorrow. The next vocab quiz is Wednesday.

Latin IV/V had the last in-class to work on their group projects for Orpheus et Eurydice. The necessary materials must be e-mailed to me tonight. There is a vocab quiz tomorrow.

AP Vergil finished Book X and read through line 825 in Book XII. Students should finish Book XII tonight. There is a vocab quiz tomorrow.

Latin II students who weren’t in class yesterday went over yesterday’s homework and classwork. All students received a crossword puzzle to complete as review for Monday’s Stage 24 test. Latin II Advanced students received a crossword puzzle to complete as review for Monday’s Stage 29 test. The puzzle can also be found online at http://www.leon-latin.org/satriano/stage29/. Students can also check their answers there.

Latin III students worked on their Chapter 5 translation. Vocabulary quizzes begin on Monday.

After the vocab quiz, Latin IV/V students worked in their groups on the Orpheus and Eurydice project.

Most students were gone from AP Vergil, so the students who were present worked on finishing Book X and translating Book XII.

Latin II went over last night’s homework and then completed 24.1 and 24.2 in class. We then discussed Word Patterns on p. 74 and completed Practicing the Language Exercises A, B, and C on pp. 75-76. Tomorrow we will review for Monday’s test.

Latin II Advanced went over last night’s homework, and then completed Practicing the Language Exercises C and D on p. 182. Tomorrow, we will review for Monday’s test.

Latin III worked on the translation of Chapter 5 of Cupid and Psyche.

Latin IV/V was divided into groups and given a project to complete as part of the Orpheus and Eurydice reading that we did. Students will work in their groups on Thursday, Friday, and Monday.

AP Vergil read through line 480 of Book X. Students should have the remainder of Book X as well as the first part of Book XII translated for Monday. (Most students will be out tomorrow due to Grad Bash.)

Latin II today took the final vocab quiz for Stage 24. The Stage 24 test is scheduled for Monday, April 18. We then went over the homework from last Tuesday (conjugating the imperfect and pluperfect subjunctive and translating cum clauses) that was turned in the day that I left for State Latin. We also completed a couple of different vocabulary exercises in class. Finally, students received Exercise 24.1 and 24.2 as well was 24.7 and 24.8 to work on in class and to complete for homework.

Latin II Advanced today read arcus Titi on pp. 177-179. Then, students worked on Practicing the Language Exercises A and B on p. 181. The Stage 29 test is scheduled for Monday, April 18.

Latin III today finished going over the purpose clause and indirect command practice sentences. Then, students received the vocabulary list for Chapter 5 of Cupid and Psyche as well as the text of Chapter 5. Due to the irregular schedule because of FCAT, students should prepare a vocabulary list for the entirety of Chapter 5, which we will begin reading on Monday. Vocabulary quizzes will take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of next week.

Latin IV/V today finished reading Orpheus and Eurydice.

AP Vergil finished Book VI today, and then students worked either on finishing the English reading as well as the associated questions OR on translating Book X. Tomorrow, we will go over all of Book X. Since most students will be gone on Friday due to Grad Bash, students should be prepared to read the entirety of Book XII  on Monday.

Latin II took the first Stage 24 vocab quiz, and then we discussed the subjunctive mood and the conjugation of the pluperfect subjunctive. Students received a list of 4 verbs to conjugate in the pluperfect subjunctive for homework. The next vocab quiz is Tuesday.

Latin II Advanced took the first Stage 29 vocab quiz, and then we went over last night’s homework. Finally, we discussed the passive voice and how it is used and how it is formed. Students are to complete the table on the bottom of page 2 of their notes for homework. The next vocab quiz is Tuesday.

Latin III read through line 15 after taking the vocab quiz. Students should translate through line 23 for homework. The next vocab quiz is Tuesday.

Latin IV/V received a list of vocab words for Orpheus and Eurydice. Quizzes will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. We read over last night’s prepared lines, and students should translate through line 24 for homework.

AP Vergil read through line 139 in Book VI. Students should translate through line 182 for homework.

Latin II today read Quintus consilium capit on p. 68. For homework, students should complete the comprehension questions on p. 69. There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow. The next vocabulary quizzes are April 5 and April 12.

Latin II Advanced read the story nox on pp. 169-170. Then, students completed exercise 29.2 to review the reading. There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow. The next vocabulary quizzes are April 5 and April 12.

Latin III read the first 8 lines of Cupid and Psyche, Chapter 4. Students should prepare through line 13 for tomorrow in addition to studying for tomorrow’s vocabulary quiz. There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow. The next vocabulary quizzes are April 5 and April 12.

Latin IV/V began reading Orpheus et Eurydice.

Latin II today discussed irregular comparison of adjectives and adverbs. Then we completed Exercises 23.3 and 23.5 in class for practice.

Latin II Advanced today worked on the Practicing the Language Exercises B and C on p. 155. Any that were not completed in class should be completed for homework. The Stage 28 test is scheduled for Thursday.

Due to the shortened period, I postponed Latin III’s vocab quiz until tomorrow. Students used the period to finish preparing lines 1-7 and moved on to complete lines 8-11. We will go over all the prepared lines tomorrow.

Latin IV/V received grammar review questions and short analysis questions for Pyramus and Thisbe. Also, due to the shortened period, I postponed the vocab quiz until tomorrow. The Pyramus and Thisbe test will take place on Friday.

AP Vergil worked on preparing the first 22 lines of Book VI.

The National Latin Exam is scheduled for Monday, March 14! Students should report directly to the Auditorium for 2nd period. The NLE counts as a test grade on the 4th 9 weeks.

Latin II and Latin II Advanced students have completed a number of practice questions over the past several days in class. Students should study these practice questions as well as the packet they received last week.

Latin III and above students have taken several practice tests in class over the past two weeks. For students who are interested in doing well on the NLE, I am posting practice questions divided up according to category. The packets of questions are much too large to print one for everyone, so students are expected to study these on their own. The links are below.

Latin II and Latin II Advanced today studied for the NLE by answering a series of questions on specific categories from older NLE tests. Both classes have a vocab quiz tomorrow.

Latin III went over last week’s indirect statement assignment. Then, students received additional practice with sentences related to Chapter 3 of Cupid and Psyche. There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow.

Latin IV/V read the prepared lines of Pyramus and Thisbe. There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow.

AP Vergil read through line 449. For Wednesday, students should prepare the remainder of Book IV.
