Latin II today completed the Word Study exercises. Then, we read epistula Cephali on p. 50 and discussed Cephalus’ motives behind sending it as well as how true his statements in the letter were. We also practiced identifying and translating participles using the sentences in the About the Language section as well as from the story. The only homework is to complete the cultural background reading that was given yesterday and to study for tomorrow’s vocab quiz.

Latin II Advanced today discussed the ablative of means, ablative of time when, and the accusative extent of time. We completed several sample sentences as a class as part of today’s notes, and then I used the cards and called on students to complete exercises 28.3 and 28.4. Tonight’s homework is to complete 28.2 and study for tomorrow’s vocab quiz.

Latin III practiced the indirect statement today. Students worked on several sentences in class, which we then went over, and students should complete the remaining sentences for homework. There is a vocab quiz tomorrow.

Latin IV/V read through last night’s assigned lines (101). Students should translate through line 127 for MONDAY. There is a vocab quiz tomorrow.

AP Vergil read through line 400. Students should translate through line 449 for MONDAY.

In Latin II, we discussed yesterday’s reading of in thermis part 2. Then, we completed a review exercise (23.5) of the story as a class. Students then worked on 23.4 Practicing Participles, which we went over after they finished. Finally, students received the Cultural Background reading to complete for homework.

Latin II Advanced reviewed what happened in yesterday’s reading of testamentum. Then, we discussed the Stage 28 vocabulary and derivatives. Next, we read in aula Salvii on pp. 146-147.

After the Latin III vocabulary quiz, we went over last night’s homework. Then, we discussed the indirect statement and took notes on it.

Latin IV/V began reading Pyramus and Thisbe. Students also received a vocabulary list.

AP Vergil read through the prepared lines, and then continued through 368. Students should prepare through line 400 tonight.

Latin II read part 2 of in thermis on pp. 47-48 today. Then, we discussed the vocabulary and derivatives for Stage 23. Vocabulary quizzes will take place this Friday, then next Tuesday and Thursday.

Latin II Advanced read over the Model Sentences in Stage 28 and discussed the ablative of means that appeared throughout the sentences. Then, we read testamentum on p. 145.

Latin III went over last night’s homework (infinitives morphology). Then, we completed another assignment to practice morphology and we went over it in class. Students received homework to practice identification and translation of infinitives, which we will go over tomorrow. The first vocabulary quiz for Chapter 3 of Cupid and Psyche is also tomorrow.

Due to the shortened period, in Latin IV/V students worked to finish the 15 lines that were assigned the night before, and I added 10 additional lines. We will go over these lines tomorrow.

After the vocab quiz, AP Vergil read to line 323. Students should be prepared through line 361 tomorrow.

Latin II today discussed some issues with last week’s practice National Latin Exam. Then, we began Stage 23, by reading the first part of in thermis on p. 46.

Latin II Advanced today went over last week’s practice National Latin Exam.

Latin III discussed the vocabulary and derivatives for Chapter 3 of Cupid and Psyche. Quizzes will take place on Wednesday, Friday, and Tuesday. We also talked about forming the infinitives in Latin.

Latin IV/V took the 2008 Poetry NLE, which we went over. Then, students were assigned the first 15 lines of Pyramus and Thisbe to prepare for tomorrow. Students will receive some time in class to work on their lines.

AP Vergil took a practice NLE today, so we did not cover the lines that were assigned on Friday. Students should be prepared through line 355 for tomorrow.

Latin II went over last night’s homework, and then we quickly reviewed how to turn adjectives into adverbs. We also reviewed identifying and translating present active, perfect passive, and perfect deponent participles. Students should complete the culture reading and associated questions tonight in preparation for tomorrow’s Stage 22 test.

Latin II Advanced took the Stage 27 test today.

Latin III took a practice National Latin Exam.

Latin IV/V began reading through the final section of prepared lines for Apollo and Daphne. We will finish tomorrow.

AP Vergil began reading on line 160 and tread through line 202. Students should prepare through line 234 tonight.

After today’s vocabulary quiz, Latin II went over last night’s homework, Practicing the Language Exercise C. Then, we discussed the genitive of description and the partitive genitive, and students found examples of each from the readings. We then completed Exercise 22.5 as a class, and students worked on 22.6B for the remainder of the period. Anyone who did not complete 22.6B should do so for homework. The Stage 22 test is Thursday.

Latin II Advanced took a Stage 27 vocab quiz today, and then we went over the homework (27.5). We completed Practicing the Language Exercises C and D on pp. 133-134 as a class. The Stage 27 test is tomorrow.

Latin III took the Cupid and Psyche, Chapter 2 test.

The Latin IV/V and AP Vergil classes were small today, because most students were out for the Mock AP English Language (or Literature) exams. Students who were in class were given the period to work on the previously assigned lines.

Latin II finished reading amor omnia vincit on pp. 35-37. Students should complete Practicing the Language, Exercise C on p. 40 for homework. There is also a vocabulary quiz tomorrow. The Stage 22 Test is scheduled for Thursday.

Latin II Advanced briefly discussed Word Patterns on p. 132, which described changing an adjective into a noun by using the suffixes -itudo, -tudo, and -ido. Then, we completed Practicing the Language Exercises A and B on p. 133 as a class. We also completed Exercise 27.4 as a class. Students then worked on 27.5, which they finished for homework. There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow. The Stage 27 Test is scheduled for Wednesday.

Latin III reviewed for tomorrow’s test of Chapter 2 of Cupid and Psyche. Then, we looked at independent uses of the subjunctive.

Latin IV/V continued reading Apollo and Daphne, which we will finish (hopefully) on Wednesday.

AP Vergil read through line 160, 12 lines short of the previously assigned lines. Students should prepare through line 202 for Wednesday.

After the vocabulary quiz, Latin II read amor omnia vincit, scaena prima on p. 34. Then students received Exercise 22.6A to complete for homework.

Latin II Advanced took the first Stage 27 vocab quiz. Then, we went over last night’s homework and read Modestus promotus on p. 131. Students also turned in the culture reading for Stage 27.

Latin III took the third vocab quiz for Cupid and Psyche Chapter 2. Due to the severely shortened period, we were not able to begin anything new. The test of Chapter 2 has been moved to Tuesday.

Due to the shortened period, we were not able to go over any lines in Latin IV/V. Instead, students should prepare through line 556. On Monday, we will begin reading on line 517.

AP Vergil read as many lines as we could in the shortened period, but we did not finish all the lines assigned last night. Nevertheless, students should prepare through line 172 for Monday.

Latin II today went over last night’s homework, and then we read Modestus on pp. 31-32. There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow.

Latin II Advanced completed several word study exercises. Then, we read Modestus attonitus on p. 129. Finally, we discussed result clauses, and students received 27.3 to complete for homework. There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow.

Latin III went over last night’s homework and discussed Monday’s test over Cupid and Psyche, Chapter 2. There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow.

Latin IV/V used the period to prepare additional lines of Apollo and Daphne.

AP Vergil read over last night’s prepared lines and continued through line 114. Students should prepare through line 142 tonight.

Latin II today discussed perfect deponent participles, and then students received Exercise 22.7, which was completed in class. Students also received Exercises 22.2 and 22.3 to complete for homework as practice identifying and translating deponent participles. The first Stage 22 vocab quiz is Friday.

Latin II Advanced today discussed the sub horreo comprehension questions on p. 128. Then, we learned about indirect commands. Students received Exercise 27.2 as practice for identifying and translating indirect commands. Students also received the culture reading questions, which are due on Friday. The first Stage 27 vocab quiz is Friday.

We finished Chapter 2 of Cupid and Psyche in Latin III today. Then, students received a grammar review assignment to go along with the story. This is due tomorrow. We have a vocabulary quiz on Friday.

Latin IV/V continued Apollo and Daphne. Students should prepare lines 517-543 tonight. There will be time to work in class tomorrow.

AP Vergil read through last night’s prepared lines and then sight-read to line 73. Students should prepare lines 73-104 tonight.
